Rachel is a “Seasonal Student” at The Studio. Most of her weight loss came from running outdoors but during the colder months, keeping credits on hand helps her to keep motivated.
In her own words:
I began my weight loss journey 15 months ago (September 2010). I had reached my all time highest weight topping 200lbs….and I am only 5’3” tall. I was recovering from some health issues that had caused quite a bit of pain in my hip and just been off medications that had helped contribute to my weight gain. I was uncomfortable and didn’t like the way I looked. After seeing a picture of myself, I knew I had to change something.
I started by gently walking outside almost every day for 10-20 minutes gradually increasing duration and speed, tracking my nutrition on Sparkpeople.com. At first I didn’t change what I ate, just how much, but now I eat mostly whole, nutrient dense foods. After 10 months of only walking for exercise I added running using a 5K training program and remembered my love for running. After 13 months I had lost 43lbs.
An article I read somewhere said that to be a strong runner, strength training is crucial, so I decided that I would try a strength class during the colder months when running outside is less then pleasurable. I generally don’t like the class environment but after my first class at The Studio (Kettlebells with Rod Hutton) I was hooked and coming back for more. Every class I have tried has been fun and challenging. The atmosphere at Nampa Fit Studio is different than other places I have been. I don’t feel intimidated or out of place. Instead I feel encouraged, comfortable, welcomed.
I love the guidance from knowledgeable instructors. And in the spring, when I’m ready to train outdoors again, I’m not stuck to a contract (although I’ll probably keep a few credits handy).
After only a few short weeks at the Studio, I have now lost a total of just over 50lbs, my running has improved significantly in speed and duration, and I can really see the difference in my body. I look forward to trying every class on the schedule (at least once) while sticking with my favorites; Kettlebells, Power Pilates and Flab Fighters, to help me lose the rest of the extra weight and continue to improve my running. Thanks Nampa Fit Studio!
